Andy Goldsworth: Environmental Art

Andy Goldsworthy’s environmental artwork is very motivating and inspiring. One think that I like about Goldsworthy’s attitude is that he never gives up when one of his ideas fail to work the first time he tries. In his documentary video, he is pilling several rocks of different sizes to create a sculpture pinecone on the shores of a lake. Even though the pilled rocks collapse every time Goldsworthy reached a certain level where they could have bear their weight, he continued trying and trying until he finally got what he wanted. The results are just extraordinary but impressive.
Some of the works that I like from him:

The art he makes are challenging but it helps people to understand and appreciate this world, our home, and everything. Before humans there was nothing but nature, and today we have filled it so many things that have ignored the how beautiful nature is. I hope more that more artists like Andy Goldsworthy emerge in the future so we can see more amazing sculptures in the future.

The Gates in Central Park

I like when artists take their ideas to the extreme like Christo and Jeanne-Claude with their project: The Gates in New York’s Central Park in February 2005. They not only brought tourists to the city but they also brought a little bit of happiness on cold winter. Looking at some of the images on the internet, I just imagine the wonderful and unique experience people got from walking under those metal structures painted with that Saffron bright color, the hanging panels of fabrics that created shadows and sounds as the winds hit the clothes and move them in different directions.
Still I don’t understand why people complained about this project if it did in have to put money on this project and it didn’t cause any damage to the environment. In my opinion Artist should make big projects like the gates because it brings the attention from the people. Even though Christo and Jeanne’s gates didn’t have any purpose at all, I think if an artist uses art to bring awareness of the bad things people do, it could have a great impact on the society on the future.
