Reaccion Paper

REACTION PAPER
When I went to visit the Joslyn Art Museum, I found three interesting sculptures from different artist that I wanted to write something about them for the reaction paper. They are: Bronco Buster (Frederic Sackrider), Large Covered Wagon (Tom Otterness), and Untitled (Jun Kaneko).

Bronco Buster
Although this bronze sculpture is very the smallest than the other two, it is much realistic and very active. I remind me of Brunelleschi’s Sacrifice of Isaac because it also captures a dramatic moment from a scene. Because of that I would say this is my favorite piece.

Large Covered Wagon
The first time you look at this sculpture, I found very funny the artist's style—it made me laugh for a moment.  The piece in my opinion is very attractive to anybody because it is very smooth and shiny that it doesn’t scare anyone.  I especially like the ant-looking figures because they are very cartoonish and so simplified.

Untitled
My last options is the giant ceramic head from Jun Kaneko. I don’t know if the artist is trying to say something with this sculpture, but it is definitely a powerful piece.  I just admire the artist for his unique idea of building something big with clay. Working with this material is fun but also extremely hard to deal with.

Finished Pieces

Here are some samples of the final product of my pieces. Some of them need  some color and maybe some pushishment to add a little bit of interest to them.

Endless talk

For next the next project in class, I will cast a home telephone device from which I will be creating more pieces in order to create a small installation with them.

I hope i can come up with an original idea to arrange them and make it look more interesting than just putting them next to each other.

Making Fire

The Creation of Adam by Michelangelo

Inspired by Michelangelo’s fresco painting the creation of Adam, I am going to model my hand into a snapping finger position. My theme will relate to that of Michelangelo’s in a different way but carrying the same idea of creation. Basically, instead of creating life, the fingers of my hand will be to create fire and sound. I compare the hand with a fire striker, because even though the fingers don’t actually create fire or anything like that, it will work in my imagination for this project.

First comes the snapping

then the spark

and finally, fire.
